More than 175 wildfires are actively burning across South Carolina, prompting Governor Henry McMaster to issue a state of emergency on Sunday. Videos on social media show fires approaching residential properties as firefighters work against dry, windy conditions to contain the blazes which have already consumed around 1,200 acres of land. Mass evacuation orders have been put in place across several neighbourhoods yet no injuries have been reported.
