Four prisoners are being returned to the US from Russia in the largest East-West prisoner swap since the Cold War era. US President Biden has confirmed that Wall Street journal reporter Evan Gershkovich, ex-marine Paul Whelan, Russian-American journalist Alsu Kurmasheva and human rights activist Vladimir Kara-Murza have all been freed. The complex exchange deal, negotiated with Russia, Germany and three other countries, involved 24 prisoners including eight released from the West back to Russia.
