NSW Premier Chris Minns has thrown his support behind a minimum age restriction for social media, as the state looks to better protect kids online. Chris Minns has called on the Federal Government to put an age limit in place but says New South Wales will look at going it alone if it needs to.

Cyber Safety Expert Speaks On Australia’s Social Media Ban| 10 News

Australia is in the headlines around the world today, after the government's historic legisation banning social media apps for under sixteens was passed by the Senate overnight. It's the first time something like this has been tried anywhere in the world, and despite the legislation being passed, it's still unclear exactly how it will work.

Ukraine Residents Without Power After Russian Missile Attack

Ukraine's capital city plunged into darkness as the country was hit by the second-biggest attack to its energy grid this month. President Putin fired his new ballistic Oreshnik hypersonic missiles, in what he has called a 'response' to the Western-supplied attack on Russian territory last week.

Israel and Hezbollah Reach Ceasefire Deal in Lebanon | 10 News First

A ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah will take effect at 4am local time on Wednesday, November 27, US President Joe Biden said on Tuesday at the White House. It is hoped that the deal, brokered by the United States and France, will allow for the cessation of hostilities and enable displaced Lebanese civilians to return to their communities. President Biden took a moment in his speech to say that the people of Gaza also "deserve an end to the fighting and displacement", and shared that he is "praying" a ceasefire deal can also be brokered for them before the end of his presidential term. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu earlier stated that he was prepared to honour the ceasefire deal but warned that Israel would respond "forcefully" if Hezbollah violates the agreement.

Public Lottery Held For Seats At Menendez Brothers' Hearing |

The Menendez brothers will have to wait for a long-awaited resentencing, after their case was delayed by nearly two months. The brothers - Lyle and Erik - who were convicted of the 1989 murder of their parents, returned to court for the first time in two decades, as efforts to commute their life sentences and set them free continue. Outside a Los Angeles courthouse today, 16 members of the public were granted access to watch the hearing through a public lottery held, with many citing the recent Netflix drama series and documentary on the case as the reason for their interest. The appearance marked the first time Lyle and Erik had been seen in public since the second trial for the murder of their parents. The brothers’ resentencing hearing, originally scheduled for December 11, will now take place on January 30.

Israel and Hezbollah Ceasefire 'Close' Says US | 10 News First

The United States is pushing strongly to implement a ceasefire in Lebanon between Hezbollah and Israel. Lebanese sources believe a ceasefire is expected to be announced between the two parties within the next 36 hours. Israel has been in conflict with the Iran-backed Hezbollah since October 2023, parallel to its war against Hamas in Gaza. This comes as Israel continues to bombard the Lebanese capital of Beirut and the city's Hezbollah-controlled southern suburbs.

ICC Issues Arrest Warrant for Israel PM Netanyahu | 10 News First

Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant have been issued arrest warrants by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for crimes against humanity related to the 13-month war in Gaza. The warrants claim they used "starvation as a method of warfare" by restricting humanitarian aid and deliberately targeting civilians in Israel's campaign against Hamas. Netanyahu rejected the warrant, stating, "Israel will not recognise the validity of this decision." The United States also opposed the decision, with White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stating, “We fundamentally, fundamentally reject that the ICC has jurisdiction over this situation.”

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has spoken following the Australian Government passing a new law to ban social media for children under the age of 16. "Social media is doing harm to our children," Albanese said following the vote. "This has been an issue that has raised with me more, or at least as much as any other issue by people ... we know that it's the right thing to do." It is unclear what social media platforms will be banned by the government, with Communications Minister Michelle Rowland set to decide on that before the laws come into effect in at least 12 months.
