It's about to become more painful for households across the country to pay their power bills, with energy regulators today announcing default prices will rise. Powerful winds were seen in Texas and Kansas as Oklahoma faced almost 150 wildfires driven by winds that reached 133km/h. Missouri bore the brunt of the tornadoes, which began to spawn on Friday, as states of emergency were declared in Arkansas, Georgia and Oklahoma.

North Macedonia Night Club Fire | 10 News First

A fire in a North Macedonian nightclub has left at least 59 people dead and more than 100 injured. Footage from the event in Kocani, shows the moment on-stage pyrotechnics ignited the night club's roof during a band's performance. Arrest warrants have been issued for four people connected with the fire, with police detaining the nightclub's owner following the incident. According to reports, among those injured were children.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that Russia supports a US proposal for a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine in principle, but many crucial details needed to be sorted out. US President Donald Trump has revealed he expects his country's potential annexation of Greenland to "happen". Trump stressed the strategic importance of the island in the arctic region, with ship routes also used by the Chinese and Russia. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte agreed with Trump's notions of the island's importance, but said he didn't want to “drag NATO into that” in a meeting in the Oval Office. Trump went on to foreshadow potentially deploying more US troops to the island. "You know, we have a couple of bases on Greenland already, and we have quite a few soldiers that maybe you'll see more and more soldiers go there," The President said.

Lawyers of a Columbia University student, who was arrested and detained for activism, say Mahmoud Khalil’s constitutional rights have been infringed and are urging his release. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arrested 29-year-old Mahmoud Khalil last weekend and threatened to revoke his permanent residency (green card). He is now being held in a detention centre in Louisiana. The contentious arrest follows a pledge by US President Donald Trump to deport students who joined protests against Israel’s war on Gaza – since describing Khalil as “a radical foreign pro-Hamas student”. Khalil, who is Palestinian, became a permanent resident last year and lives in Manhattan with his US-citizen wife, who is eight months’ pregnant.

Ukraine Agrees To US-Backed Ceasefire Proposal | 10 News First

Ukraine has agreed to a US-backed proposal that would see a 30-day ceasefire called in the war-stricken region following high-level talks in Saudi Arabia. Speaking in Jeddah, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the agreement, which would also see United States restrictions on military aid and intelligence sharing lifted. Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who was shut out of the talks, welcomed the deal in an address from Kyiv, stating "we consider it positive, we are ready to take such a step." The ceasefire proposal now requires approval by Russia before it can be implemented.

Los Angeles DA Opposes Resentencing Request For Menendez Brothers

Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman has said the Menendez brothers must fully acknowledge and fully accept responsibility for the murder of their parents before he would support their release from prison. At a press conference on Monday, Hochman said he would ask the court to withdraw the resentencing motion filed in the case by his predecessor. Erik and Lyle Menendez were convicted in 1996 of the shooting deaths of their parents, Jose and Kitty Menendez, and sentenced to life in prison without parole.
