A plane crash during a failed landing at Muan International Airport in southwest South Korea left 179 of the 181 people on board dead. The Jeju Air flight, travelling from Bangkok, veered off the runway and collided with an outer wall at around 9:07am local time on Sunday. The impact caused a massive explosion, destroying the fuselage and engulfing the plane in fire. Only two crew members, a 33-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman, survived. Authorities have recovered both black boxes from the wreckage and are investigating whether a bird strike caused landing gear failure.
