Akec and Joe are friends through Joe’s twin sister. Akec was born in Kenya, moving to a refugee camp with her mother at the young age of three. At age 11, she migrated to Australia, landing in Perth before settling in Melbourne, where she’s lived for the past five years. She made her debut there in an AFLW career, up until her recent retirement.

Joe is a comedian and is the first Ethiopian stand-up to play at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. He also migrated to Perth as a refugee at age 11, some 20 years ago. Having both been raised in refugee camps, Akek and Joe both credit Australia for giving their families a second chance at life. While competing in Hunted, they hope to inspire and represent the African community that lives in Australia.
